As you use your Sony Vaio laptop, fingerprints, crumbs, dust and other debris often builds up on the device. Over time, this accumulation of dust, smudges and other debris may prevent your Vaio's keyboard from working properly and may cause your laptop to overheat. Taking the time to clean your Sony Vaio laptop regularly may help extend the life of the device.
Step 1
Turn off your Vaio and disconnect the power cord from its power source. Turn over the laptop, remove the battery pack and place the pack to the side. How to remove the battery will depend on your Vaio model. If the battery is located on the underside of the laptop, you slide the lock tab to release the pack. If the battery is located on the side of the laptop, you must remove the battery cover and slide out the battery pack.
Step 2
Hold your laptop upside down over a trashcan and gently shake it to remove loose crumbs and other debris. Use both hands to prevent dropping your Vaio.
Step 3
Place your Vaio on a sturdy surface, such as a wood or metal desk.
Step 4
Use a can of compressed air to remove the debris trapped between the keys of the keyboard, the vents, the fan and all ports. Keep the can about 3 inches away from the Vaio surface to avoid damaging the device.
Step 5
Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the monitor, keyboard and case of your Vaio. This removes dry dust and other debris from the device.
Step 6
Dampen a soft, microfiber cloth lightly with water and wring out all excess water from the cloth. Use the cloth to wipe the monitor, the keyboard and the Vaio case. This removes fingerprints, smudges and other oils from the device. Use a cloth dampened with water and a mild dish soap to remove stubborn smudges and stains and then use a clean, damp cloth to remove any remaining soap residue. Don't allow liquid to pool on the Vaio and because this may cause permanent damage. In addition, only use gentle pressure when cleaning the monitor because harsh pressure may damage the internal components of the screen.
Step 7
Dry your Vaio with a clean, dry microfiber cloth.
Step 8
Return the battery pack to your Vaio.

Tips
- Tiny black or bright spots you see on the screen when in use may be the result of a defective pixel rather than dirt.
Warnings
- Don't use window cleaner or other harsh cleaning solutions when cleaning your Vaio because they may damage the device. In addition, don't use paper towels or other abrasive materials because doing so may scratch your Vaio.
