When yous launch AllDup, it presents a checklist of folders to scan—including all your hard drives and certificate folders by default—and correct-clicking on the list lets you add other folders. The "Comparison Method" section also lets you make up one's mind whether AllDup will wait for duplicates within the same folder (for when you've taken a lot similar photos at once) or only between different folders (for photos y'all might've stashed in multiple places).

After selecting some folders to scan, you can click "Search Method" to decide what to look for. Select "Detect similar pictures," then select "dHash" as the comparison method. You lot can and then adjust the Match percent to control how alike the photos should be. Simply using the "Find like pictures" fashion with diverse levels of matching, I was able to clean out hundreds of unwanted photos. A Mac alternative

Unfortunately, AllDup is merely bachelor for Windows. If for whatever reason you're keeping all your photos on a Mac, PhotoSweeper is an excellent alternative. It offers a similar set of granular controls for hunting down duplicates, and while it does toll $x, I'll admit it's likewise more than user-friendly. (PhotoSweeper'southward developer also makes a gratuitous version called Indistinguishable Photos Finder that does a decent job, only it lacks the fine-tuning that the paid version offers.)

Like AllDup, you lot start selecting the folders y'all desire to scan for Duplicates. One time the scan is finished, you can hit "Compare" to choose between iii dissimilar matching modes: "Duplicate Files" searches by file proper name, "Similar Photos" sniffs out images that look alike, and "Serial of Shots" finds photos taken in quick succession. In each case, y'all get a series of sliders for adjusting how many of your photos go clustered together.

Once PhotoSweeper does its matching, you tin view each fix of matches side-by-side and double-click (or striking Enter) on the ones you want to delete. The app also has a handy "Auto Marker" feature that suggests photos to delete automatically. You can then ship your marked photos to the trash all at one time.

Compared to AllDup, PhotoSweeper is more than cocky-explanatory, and I like how yous tin can fiddle with its diverse knobs to instantly change the duplicate search results. Although I'm primarily a Windows user, I can see myself turning to PhotoSweeper if I ever take to do this whole do once more.

Non that I'thousand planning to do so anytime presently. At present that my Pictures folder is neat and tidy, hopefully I'll do a better task keeping it that style on a regular basis.
